Sustainable Battery Technologies
The move toward greener and scalable battery chemistries is central to sustainable electrification. Our lab develops Na-ion, Zn-ion, and hybrid aqueous/non-aqueous systems that use abundant and non-toxic elements, offering environmentally and economically viable alternatives to Li-ion chemistries. We emphasize materials with low thermal processing footprints, high reversibility, and benign end-of-life profiles. Key efforts include the synthesis of bio-derived hard carbons, water-processable electrode inks, and investigation of electrolyte additives that promote longer cycle life. Our sustainability framework also includes comparative life-cycle analysis (LCA) of materials and manufacturing routes, ensuring that our battery solutions are not only high-performance but also eco-responsible.
